Well I didn't have to read the whole article to see plainly that the operator was NOT using his equipment correctly, not was he adept at using the trans. retarder. On a slick road why was he traveling at that high a speed even before he got in trouble. One greenhorn puts a bad light on the safety of using the trans. retarder. I take it all with a grain of salt.

Hey Jim,
You are right on the mark with the improper use of the retarder. If one reads, it tells you, "do not use on wet, slippery, icy roads. Too much stopping traction for slick surfaces. Same story applies to cruise control, "do not use on wet or slick roads".
