Anyone have experience and comments about the performance of Cummins 450HP ISM (pre 2004) vs. Cummins 500HP ISM-02 (post 2003) engines as used in Foretravel U320s ?

I have a '02 U320 w/ISM 450 It has been no problem in 50K miles. Lots of torque and gets, over a trip of 3500 mi, 8.35 mpg. My MH is 36' and that was not towing. Towing my CRV drops it slightly. I know nothing about the 500HP ISM, but reckon it is probably the same block with a tad more boost and fuel added for more HP. Jim in Las Cruces

unklebud2. I have the 450 ISM in my 99, 36 ft U320. Wow! I do believe it would scratch off if it were not for the electronic ignition. I leave my travel buddy in his Wanderlodge at the foot of the mountain.(well, really about half way up). I get 7.4 mpg towing a CR-V. This is tank consumption (including, of course, the genset & Aqua-hot). Just installed an engine monitor system so now can get exact engine consumption. I, too, got the impression that the 500hp engine was the same block with jazzed up features, some of which have been a problem, I think.

I have a 450 in my U-320 02. Love it. I tow a jeep liberty and my average mileage is 8.0mpg. Plenty of HP, great in the mountains or the flats.

:)Thanks for the information, seems everyone is happy with the 450HP M11. Does anybody have comments about the 500HP ISM-02 M11?
